Every once in a while a media outlet comes up with reasons why the iPhone will surpass BlackBerry in cell phone market share. The latest is Forbes magazine, though the analysis comes from company called Trefis. They break down the trends of each company, and have determined that the iPhone will overtake BlackBerry in early 2011 . As in, a year from now. The main evidence is that Apple has grown a bit faster, going from .3 percent market share in 2007 to 2 percent in 2009, while RIM went from 1 to 3 in that period. Further, they expect RIm to have an 8 percent cell phone market share by 2016, with Apple ahead of them at 11 percent

I’ve been talking to Foursquare recently (article to come) about their awesome location-based social platform. The company have put a lot of work into their BlackBerry client, and updates are continually rolling out to make the mobile experience on BlackBerry as robust as possible. Something you may have noticed about the BlackBerry app is that it doesn’t rely on traditional menu and setup screens. This is just one example of how Foursquare are building a BlackBerry app that focuses on smooth navigation and user experience. No more standby mode on your BlackBerry

I never quite understood the purpose of standby mode. I did use the function regularly, though not intentionally. This actually happens a lot with my Tour, since it’s easy to press the mute button while shoving the device into my pocket. I suppose it saves battery, and it’s not really that big a pain if I do accidentally hit it. I’m sure many of you use the function — or used it, depending on your OS version. As Bla1ze reports , RIM has disabled standby mode in recent OS builds, starting with version 5.0

Foursquare For BlackBerry Updated To Version 1.7

Since the rest of the smartphone world also got a Foursquare app update, it doesn’t really come as a surprise the BlackBerry version got bumped to version 1.7. As SXSW gets set to kick off in Austin, Texas, Foursquare and its location based counterpart Gowalla have kind of been in heated battle for the attention of users in attendance. It’ll be a bloody badge showdown for sure. As for the BlackBerry version, after having downloaded version 1.7 it looks to me that it’s just simply overall UI changes at this point. It should be noted though that I am not exactly an avid user of Foursquare, so if anything else major has changed under the hood I might not be noticing it. For those of you out there that use Foursquare on a daily basis, be sure to let us know in the comments if you have noticed anything major that has changed in the version 1.7 release
