RIM Addresses BBM 5 Disappearing Icon Issue With KB Article And BlackBerry App Word Warning

Since Research in Motion officially released BlackBerry Messenger 5 users have reported issues with the BBM icon disappearing on various builds of the BlackBerry OS. To make a long story short, BBM 5 isn’t compatible with certain builds of the BlackBerry operating system. To address this problem, Research in Motion has released KB article KB22308 ,which, basically, just lets you know that RIM is aware of the issue but that they haven’t found a resolution or have a time frame for when they will. RIM also updated the BlackBerry Messenger page on BlackBerry App World: Before downloading, please back up your contact list by displaying the menu within BlackBerry Messenger – Options – Back Up. (Available for BBM 5.0 and 5.0.1 users) Please ensure that you are using RIM or carrier approved BlackBerry® Device Software to avoid compatibility issues that may result in loss of the BBM icon. A long time ago, back in 2008, there was an official Picasa app for BlackBerry and it was very short lived. The app looked really good but rumor had it that there were technical difficulties and the Flickr app was going to replace it as the official BlackBerry picture app. Bul System let us know that they have a Picasa app available called bbCasa which could be a good alternative for Picasa users. Analyst Claims Torch Sales Had No Meaningful Impact on AT&T Revenue

A Pacific Crest analyst James Faucette claims that the BlackBerry Torch failed to make any significant impact on revenue between RIM and AT&T. In a research note he wrote: “ We believe that the Torch has settled into a stable sell-through level while not meaningfully affecting BlackBerry’s overall revenue with AT&T despite rising average selling prices. ” Pacific Crest claims that the Torch has cannibalized a substantial portion of Bold sales, and those who are still purchasing a Bold are doing so because of a preference for OS 5. To cap off a poor review of RIM’s device sales, Faucette writes: “We believe RIM is entering into a downward margin spiral.” This sort of negative analysis of RIM has been going on for some time – not only from analysts but especially from the mainstream media. Almost daily some expert or reporter claims that RIM is losing ground in enterprise and the latest devices are unimpressive relative to other smartphones on the market. At the end of the day, it’s important to note that these analysts and reporters aren’t privy to any numbers from AT&T or RIM, and are basing their judgments on surveys that they’re conducting themselves

RIM Addresses Missing BBM Icon with App World Warning and KB Article

RIM has been trying to address an issue with BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 for some time now that involves a disappearing BBM icon after installation. The issue is that the latest version of BBM is not compatible with certain OS versions and RIM has addressed this by leaving the following note on App World: 1. Official OS 5.0.0.822 for the BlackBerry Curve 8520 and 8900 now available from T-Mobile

T-Mobile has officially released OS 5.0.0.822 for both the BlackBerry Curve 8520 and BlackBerry Curve 8900. We’re seeing a trend now with the ol’ .822 as this joins both the Rogers and AT&T Bold 9000 releases. Surely there is some new and slightly improved goodness with this OS, so if you’re ready and willing give it a go. Bell Mobility to launch BlackBerry Torch too

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 might be exclusive to one carrier in the U.S., but that hasn’t stopped the floozy of a handset from making the rounds in Canada. Bell Mobility recently announced that they too will be carrying the BlackBerry Torch slider — which we knew – beginning on September 24th. The device will retail for $199 on a 3-year contract and $599 off-contract. This brings the total number of Canadian networks launching the 9800 on September 24 to four: Bell, Rogers, Telus, and Virgin Mobile. Bell hasn’t put out an official press release yet, but we have a statement for you after the break.
